Status

Nebraska Wesleyan University Department of Music invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Education.  This is a full-time faculty position to begin Fall 2024. 

Nebraska Wesleyan University is a liberal arts university of approximately 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students in Lincoln, Nebraska. We place a high value on personal attention to students, and we seek candidates who have demonstrated effective teaching in K-12 music programs and are prepared to cultivate and oversee our undergraduate Music Education Program. A successful candidate will need to be a strong recruiter and work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and the Admissions Office.

Responsibilities

*Teach courses in music education, including Music for Elementary Teachers, Secondary Instrumental Methods.

*Teach additional courses as assigned or within the candidate’s specialty, which may include conducting, instrumental techniques courses, directing a small ensemble, or teaching in an applied area.

*Mentor music education students and oversee student teaching/practicum placements and supervision. 

*Collaborate with the NWU Department of Education to facilitate student candidacy into the Teacher Education Program.  

*Recruit new music education students, working closely with department faculty and the Admissions Office.

*Advise the NWU NAfME Collegiate Chapter.

Qualifications

*Master’s degree or terminal degree in music, preferably in music education.

*A minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience in K-12 schools.

*Evidence of success, at the K-12 or collegiate level, of recruiting students and building positive relationships with K-12 music educators.
